The much-beloved Will Geer played Auburn with a gentleman named Mike Wilson. To those unfamiliar, Geer is in the photo. Unfortunately Mike Wilson proved far too common a name to research.

Together, though, they recreated Mark Twain and Walt Whitman, read from Robert Frost and Woodie Guthrie and did an oddball Romeo and Juliet.

Geer closed the show by reprising his famous role from The Waltons, which was still a contemporary television hit.

"Good night Johnboy."

"Good night Grandpa."

And then a standing ovation.

At 1:50 in this clip you can see a great little snippet of Geer with musician Gordie Tapp on Hee Haw.

Ellen Mcilwaine, a Canadian like Tapp, never played Hee Haw, but she played the UPC Coffee House series. The legendary slide guitar player is still touring.

The Auburn University Symphony Orchestra played two shows in the fall, performing Sibelius' First Symphony and, later, The Vivaldi Concerto at Christmas.

The symphony was 55 players in 1976, and boasts 70 select members today. The director, Paul Johnian, is now the music director at The Millennium Music Center in Tennessee.
