Don Shirley was a relatively obscure musician when he came to Auburn. There was a small crowd and a reportedly inferior piano provided, but Shirley played everything from Duke Ellington to Stevie Wonder.

As of this writing Shirley is celebrating his 80th birthday and still producing music. Fascinating career too.

Auburn students were also treated to music from a singer/songwriter named Jack Ross at something called the UPC Winter Coffee House. The UPC is the organization that provides entertainment, but the coffee house thing was something that was long abandoned by the time we were freshmen 20 years later.

I'm sure it will make a return. As themes go coffee houses are inescapable.

The Glomerata also discusses an outdoor performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" which played at the now rarely used Graves Ampitheatre.

There was also a production of "The Bald Soprano" that apparently received good, if confused reviews. It is an absurdist play, maybe no one bothered to tell the audience.
