One of the many performers that came to Auburn in the 1975-76 academic year was Maynard Ferguson. The Canadian trumpeteer brought a 20-piece jazz band and reportedly played a broad range of music.
Maynard died in 2006. In his 65-year career he produced 60 records and earned many accolades.
An eight-member troup led by the father of jazz dance, Gus Giordano also performed at Auburn in the spring, feautring the dance adaptation of "several famous songs." Only the dancers and the students might recall those songs today.
Giordano is still dancing though. As a senior citizen he still runs a big dance academy in Chicago.
