Here are five freshmen in their pajamas. You can tell from their rat caps.
This is about the Georgia Tech game. This is from the 1945 football season and recalls Auburn's first home game against Georgia Tech, November 1896. Auburn wrecked Tech, 45-0, a score that had more to do with Zzzzs than the Xs and Os of football.
Tech came in by a special train before that 1896 game. Some API students coated the rails with grease, lard, and soap. The train couldn't stop and the visiting team had to walk back several miles, football gear in hand. When they got wise, Georgia Tech got mad, and The Wreck Tech Pajama Parade, an annual (but sadly discontinued) commemoration and symbolic reenactment of the hi-jinks featuring a pajama-clad march to the Train Depot for a pep rally.
Hence the pajamas. After this parade, the Tigers lost 20-7 in Atlanta. Blame the freshmen.Previous | Next | Glomerata Index | Home
